What is Floating?

“Floating” is the deepest level of relaxation you will likely ever have. Floating simply refers to climbing inside one of our state of the art flotation chambers and enjoying total peace and tranquility while free from all disturbances of the outside world. Flotation chambers, or ‘float tanks / float rooms’ are soundproof, lightproof, gravity free environments designed to give your mind and body a state of blissful rest that cannot be replicated or achieved anywhere else on Earth! Inside these futuristic feeling bathtubs is roughly ten inches of Epsom salt water. You will float effortlessly on the surface of this dense salt-water mixture, which is comprised solely of the mineral compound Magnesium Sulfate. This medical grade salt (imported from Germany) is extremely detoxifying and therapeutic when absorbed through your skin. The water is kept at skin temperature through computer programming and while resting on its surface you will be completely free from the downward forces of gravity. Your body will be free of all muscle tension; no pressure points will be activated along its entirety. You simply lay on a pillow of water while exerting no energy, like an astronaut floating in space.

Floating Guidelines

  • Please visit the restroom prior to floating

    Please visit the restroom prior to floating and remove all jewelry and contact lenses.

  • Take a shower and thoroughly cleanse yourself

    Take a shower and thoroughly cleanse yourself of all deodorant, perfumes, sunscreen, lotions and creams. Thoroughly dry your face and the inside of your ears with the towel provided.
  • Insert earplugs.

    Insert earplugs (Optional). Cover any cuts or scrapes with a thin layer of Vaseline (Optional). Climb into the water, slowly, and position yourself in the middle and lie down on your back. You’re floating! Enjoy the new sensation of being gravity free!
  • Allow your arms to place themselves into a comfortable position

    Allow your arms to place themselves into a comfortable position. If you feel any tension in your neck, consciously relax your head back into the water and you will float comfortably. Remember there is a lot of salt in the water so do not rub your eyes.
  • Music will be played the first ten minutes of your float

    Music will be played the first ten minutes of your float to help you relax, and then there is silence. Just let go! Allow yourself to just ‘be’. Allow the “brain chatter” to happen, this is part of the de-stressing.
  • When you hear the music come back your float

    When you hear the music come back your float session has come to an end. Slowly sit up and reach to your right and push the light button. Stand up slowly before climbing out of the floatation chamber and take a shower.
  • After changing, please relax in the lounge area for

    After changing, please relax in the lounge area for at least ten minutes- the transition back to the ‘real’ world is important too! Spend this time reflecting on your experience.

Before You Float

You will be showering immediately after exiting the room to rinse off excessive salt from skin, hair and ears. You are welcome to bring a swimming cap to use in the tank, however it’s been our experience that they may not work to keep your hair dry.

Please notify our staff immediately if you have died your hair or had a coloring treatment within the last 10 days. If you have recently had your hair dyed, it’s important to make sure the dye has had time to set completely or there is a chance the float water could bleach it.

Earplugs are provided to prevent water from going in ears as they are submerged in the water. It is important to dry your face and ears well before entering the float chamber to both minimize the urge to touch your face to wipe water off and risk salt water stinging your eyes as well as for the ear plugs to remain firmly in your ears.

You must shower at the float center prior to entering tank to rid of make-up, oils, lotions, hair products, etc. Even if you just showered at home prior to arriving we require that every client shower on-site prior to entering the float rooms. Each private spa room has a private shower and we provide local organic natural

Do not shave at least 4 hours before floating because the salt water can sting. Contact lenses should not be worn in the float rooms.

Cover up cuts/scrapes with liquid band-aid or apply Petroleum Jelly over your abrasions (we provide both) to reduce stinging due to salt content.

We recommend that you do not eat a big meal or drink caffeine within two hours of float appointment. If caffeine can be avoided altogether the day of your float, that would be ideal.

During Your Float

Try to go in without expectation. Be open to anything and everything. Floating allows your brain to naturally slow its rhythm; however, it’s not always the easiest thing the notice while it’s happening. You can rest assured that it is happening though, and you’ll realize when you exit the float tank just how calm you feel. If it seems like you are lying there doing nothing and nothing is happening, chances are you’re doing exactly what you’re supposed to be doing.

Do not try and ‘shut off’ your brain. Relax and allow any and all thoughts to pass through your mind without concern that you are thinking too much. Allow your thoughts to flow. Allow “brain chatter” to happen, this is part of de-stressing. You’ll be alone with yourself in an entirely new and unique environment; that alone will lend itself to a different kind of thought pattern than you’re typically used to. Go with it! Observe how you feel floating on top of a bed of water.

Notice what thoughts go through your head while alone without sights or sounds from the outside world disturbing you. Should you choose to, you can reflect on your current situation or think about specific issues or circumstances in your life. There is no right or wrong.

Relax. Breath. Smile. This time is for you.

Instead of worrying about all the things you have to do think about your environment as a womb; the embryonic enclosure is warm, comfortable and most important, it’s safe! You are floating on nearly 1 ton of salt water that is denser than the Dead Sea. You couldn’t sink if you tried and if you did sink, there is only 10 inches of water in the chamber; fancy bathtubs at high end hotels are more dangerous.

After You Float

Schedule some quite time for yourself after the float. Reflect on how you feel; you should feel calm and contended. Notice your highly acute senses; sights and sounds should be heightened and sharper. Enjoy your hair and skin’s healthy glow from absorbing the magnesium sulfate; you should feel soft and silky.

Ensure to drink plenty of water after your float, for magnesium to reach the cellular level your cells must be hydrated.

Why Float

+Athletes

Athletes float to enhance their performance and dramatically speed up recovery from their injuries. Floating improves circulation and it’s easier for large muscle groups to receive oxygen rich blood more easily. This is also responsible for quickly alleviating the pain of injuries as most injuries are the result of improper muscle tension; floating causes a reduction in muscle tension due to the zero gravity environment created from resting on the surface of a pillow of water. Additionally, having a reduction in muscle tension allows harmful lactic acid build up to disperse quickly. Dopamine has been demonstrated to play a role in pain processing in multiple levels of the central nervous system including the spinal cord. If we had the energy to write the list of negative effects of stress on your body, we could be here forever. Ranging from hypertension and cardiovascular disease to immune system and digestive disorders, the list is shocking and morose. In addition to harmful physical effects, the question to whether or not our society is sick becomes unarguable when you consider the following effects on our thoughts and feelings resulting from stress: anger, restlessness, forgetfulness, fatigue, burnout, anxiety, insecurity, emotional outburst, relationship problems, social withdrawal, crying, food cravings, drug seeking behavior and the list continues. The damaging effects of stress are so severe they are almost unmentionable. +How can Floating help eliminate stress?

Well, maybe that one was just me. Besides fatigue, Jet Lag sufferers may experience a number of physical and emotional symptoms including anxiety, constipation, diarrhea, confusion, dehydration, headache, irritability, nausea, sweating, coordination problems, dizziness, and even memory loss. Your biological clock, known as your circadian rhythm, is on a 24-hour cycle that gets confused when you fly long distances. This system is altered from receiving information that is different from its normal environmental occurrences; light when it should be dark, warm when it is usually cold, eating when you’re normally asleep, etc. Additionally the drastic changes in altitude cause severe body dehydration if we’re not careful; especially those of us who like a cocktail or two in the cabin. +High blood pressure/ Heat disease

One out of three people have hypertension, or high blood pressure. This is a common and serious health concern, as uncontrolled hypertension can cause heart disease and increase your risk of having a stroke. It’s especially dangerous because it often has no warning signs or symptoms.
